Cynthia Liu

Cynthia Liu holds a PhD in literature (emphasis on Asian American/20th century American) and a M.A. in creative writing, both from UC Berkeley. Previous narrative film credits include the shorts RED THREAD (Worldfest Houston award-winner for romantic comedy; distributed on dvd by Pathfinder Pictures) and A. EYE FOR THE WHITE GUY, both of which have screened in numerous national and international film festivals. Her previous non-fiction film credit is as writer-researcher on Loni Ding’s three-part PBS series, ANCESTORS IN AMERICA. She is writer/producer/director of WORLD ON A STRING, her current feature documentary-in-progress about the Filipino origins of the “all-American” yo-yo. To date, grant support comes from the Smithsonian Institution, the Ohio Humanities Council, and the California Council on the Humanities Story Fund.
